About the Museum

Cromarty Courthouse Museum combines the fascinating story of an Eighteeth Centrury Courthouse and Jail, complete with cells, prisoners and active court cases, with the story of a vibrant north Highland seaport and its hinterland.

The Courthouse Building gives a brief account of the creation and development of this iconic eighteenth century Courthouse.

The Courthouse Museum looks at what's involved in creating and caring for the collection housed here.

The Courthouse Soundscapes give a brief account of what you will hear during your visit to the museum, with links to written summaries.

The map below gives you an idea of what you will find as step back in time with us

We also have an attractive Community Garden with wild flowers, fruit trees and shrubs where you are welcome to come and relax.

Working with the Courthouse Museum

If you are interested in supporting the museum, and have some spare time, why not consider befoming a volunteer or even applying for one of the paid posts we offer?

We also offer some (limited) research facilities and the opportunity to use this wonderful setting as a wedding venue.
